Ethel Mitchell graduated from Fisk University, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She received her Juris Doctorate degree from Columbia Law School and sewed as law clerk for Judge Almeric Christian, Chief Judge of the United States District Court of the US Virgin Islands. She established a practice of law representing clients from the United States, British, French, Spanish and Dutch islands in corporate, real estate, business, divorce and probate. Her clients included a major local airline, a client involved in a multi-million dollar bid for the major cruise ship dock. She received a $900,000 jury verdict for a client in a personal injury case.

Ethel completed numerous courses of study, including receiving a degree as a Certified Financial Planner. She taught probate law at the University of the Virgin Islands. In 1996, she became a member of the bar association of Texas and entered the Executive MBA Program at Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in Dallas Texas while practicing law in Texas, concentrating on personal injury law, business and estate planning.

In 1999 she spent 10 months in the Republic of Ghana, where she completed the Post Call Graduate Course at the University of Ghana Law School. She passed the Ghana Bar Exam and became a member of the Bar of the Republic of Ghana.

She returned to the United States to serve as Director of Administration for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. As Executive in Charge of Production for the Annual Legislative Conferences 2000, 2001 and 2002 Attorney Mitchell planned, administered and managed all aspects of public policy conferences attended yearly by 30,000 political, educational corporate and business leaders.

In 2003 she became a member of the bar associations of the District of Columbia and Maryland and opened her office for the practice of law in Washington, DC. In 2004 she became Of Counsel to the law firm of Patrick and Henry LLP.

Attorney Ethel Mitchell has extensive experience in many areas. Her practice is concentrated in wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, durable power of attorneys, business succession planning and estate planning.
