Mr. Malik N. Drake graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering. He subsequently received his law degree from George Mason University School of Law.

While in law school, Mr. Drake worked at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as a patent examiner. His work focused on class 34 (drying and gas or vapor contact with solids) and class 62 (refrigeration). During his years as a patent examiner, Mr. Drake acquired significant experience in interpreting and applying statutes relevant to patent law, as well as the Manual of Patent Examining Procedures (MPEP) rules.

In 2002, Mr. Drake opened his own law practice in Northern Virginia. In addition to intellectual property, his practice was comprised of general civil litigation, entertainment law, juvenile and family law, and criminal defense. He became Of Counsel to Patrick Henry LLP in 2005. Mr. Drake is knowledgeable regarding various aspects of intellectual property, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. He is experienced at drafting/reviewing/negotiating various types of contracts in the entertainment industry, including recording agreements, management contracts, production agreements, and licensing agreements.

Prior to embarking on his legal career, Mr. Drake worked as a Chemical Engineer/Project Manager for two environmental consulting firms in the Washington, D.C. area. As such, Mr Drake was responsible for managing projects involving risk assessments, pollution prevention, and regulatory compliance.

Mr. Drake is licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia. In addition, he has obtained his USPTO registration and, thus, is qualified to practice before the USPTO during patent prosecution. Mr. Drake is actively involved in the community through various civic organizations and Bar associations.
